Skin Tone and Elasticity

The skin consists of the epidermis and hypodermis.
Skin aging is caused by reduced levels
of collagen and elastin in the epidermis and hypodermis.

Treatment

Skin aging is cause by reduced levels of collagen and elastin in the epidermis and hypodermis. When talking about skin aging in TV shows, people emphasize only on collagen, but elastin has greater roles in maintaining skin elasticity. This is because elastin maintains flexibility and elasticity while collagen firms the skin. In other words, elastin is like spandex in jeans. Because pharmaceutical companies and hospitals emphasize only on collagen, there are many injections and fillers for inducing collagen in the market that draw the attention.

But it is important to generate collagen and elastin suitable for individual's skin. Stem cells extracted from the patient's body generate collagen and elastic suitable for the patient's body. Stem cells are transplanted between epidermis and hypodermis where the cell division is most active in the skin to regenerate collagen and elastin. This way, the skin tone and elasticity are improved as well as the skin's immunity.

Wrinkles

The skin consists of the epidermis and hypodermis.
Skin aging is caused by reduced levels of collagen
and elastin in the epidermis and hypodermis.

Treatment

Deepening wrinkles with age are common enemies to men and women who want younger and better looks. Forehead wrinkles, frown wrinkles, lines around eyes and smile lines are the major causes of aged look, and in interpersonal relations, wrinkles do not simply mean skin aging but can give inflexible and rigid impressions.

Anatomically and histologically, wrinkles are affected by reduced collagen, sagging of peripheral soft tissues and right and left skeletal asymmetry. Treatments include Botox and filler injections, fat transplantation and lifting surgery. However, because botox will paralyze muscles, the patient's smile may look unnatural, and the patient may feel difficult to open eyes due to weakening muscle frontalis. Filler injection has possibility of critical accident such as skin necrosis or blindness. If filler clots, delayed hypersensitivity may occur in one year after filler injection. Fat transplantation is effective in areas with reduced soft tissues, but it is less effective in deep wrinkles. Wrinkle removal surgery consists of removal, pulling and suturing of skin, and the sutured area may leave scars.

The basic principles for non-surgical wrinkle treatment regenerate skin and reduced subcutaneous tissues, and removal of wrinkle marks on epidermis and hypodermis is especially important. For this, collagen generation in the subcutaneous tissues is promoted.

In wrinkle treatment, the advantages of stem cells are prevention of artificial looks by regenerating collagen and the lack of side effects. However, because the epidermis and subcutaneous tissues are hard around deep wrinkles, the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells may be limited.

A specially designed scaffold to supplement the above disadvantages of stem cells will create an environment for stem cells to proliferate and differentiate in deep wrinkles like building a house for fish to live in a fish farm.

Intractable Freckles

This facial disease accompanies
brown spots in irregular shapes
and sizes on exposed areas.

Definition

This facial disease accompanies brown spots in irregular shapes and sizes on exposed areas. The symptoms are deteriorated by exposure to the sunlight, pregnancy, oral contraceptives or some anticonvulsants and show symmetric melanin pigmentation on the cheeks, forehead and under eyes.

Causes

In most cases, the causes are unclear but are caused by genetic or constitutional factors. In many cases, freckles occur during pregnancy or after taking oral contraceptives. In other areas, it may occur from exposure to sunlight, endocrine imbalance, genetic factors, drugs (anticonvulsants), malnutrition, and liver function disorders.

Symptoms

Brown or bluish-gray pigmentation in varying sizes occur mainly on cheeks, forehead, upper lip, nose and chin. In rare cases, it occurs on arms. According to the depth of the pigmentation, the color of lesion varies. The lesion is grown if pigmentation is mainly in epidermis, bluish-gray if it is in hypodermis, and brownish-gray if it is in both. Brownish-gray is the most common case.

Diagnosis

Visually, it is diagnosed by excessive pigmentation in brown color on the face. From tissue examination, the level of melanin pigment has increased in epidermis, hypodermis or both. In most cases, the number of melanin cells does not increase, but the size is larger, the cells spread out and are promoted.

Treatment

In general, treatment of freckles is not easy and fast treatment effect cannot be expected. But a complex treatment of stem cells and laser toning shows effectiveness in intractable freckles.
